On Saturdays from May to October, the Fenton Street Market transforms Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring into a bustling marketplace. Over 60 local vendors a week showcase their wares: original artwork, handmade and imported crafts, antiques, jewelry, furniture, vintage clothing, unique services such as acupuncture and henna tattoos, and much more. Weekly community programming includes: live music, art demos, community conversations, joke contests and more.
A Benefit Corporation owned and operated by local Silver Spring residents, Fenton Street Market invigorates the local economy by providing a venue for locally-owned businesses to connect directly with customers. Last year, 75,000 neighbors visited the market, contributing over $1.4 million to the local economy. Additionally, FSM serves as a community gathering spot and holds roundtables, performances, workshops, and classes on a weekly basis.
To make the market a viable opportunity for new vendors, FSM offers: a reasonable booth rental rate, tent rentals, free internet exposure and marketing through our website and social media outlets, an umbrella insurance policy, and help filing for a temporary sales tax identification number.
In 2012, the market will run every Saturday beginning on April 28, ending on October 27, from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Due to large community events on Veterans Plaza, the market will not operate on the following dates: August 11, September 8, September 22. Veterans Plaza is located in front of the Silver Spring Civic Building, at the intersection of Fenton St. and Ellsworth Dr., Silver Spring, MD 20910.
